Reactions to the HP acquisition of Autonomy and it’s move away from PC hardware are still percolating.

Ron Miller over at Fierce Content Management has a good summary of reactions from around the information management space.

Leslie Owens of Forrester has an article which takes the gloss off the Autonomy acquisition with this quote:

IDOL is like a vacuum cleaner with a huge vacuum bag and a lot of fancy ways to improve the dirt it collects.

OUCH!

While financial pundits seem cautiously optimistic on HPs overall approach of refocusing on software and services (ala IBM), the ECM crowd seems to be left scratching its collective head wondering if there is really still a there there with Autonomy.

Meanwhile, Google  – a force to be reckoned with in collaboration spaces – acquires Motorola to beef up against Apple.

Oracle acquires Fatwire to beef up in the WCM and WEM space and also snaps up InQuira which might power cool user-centric discovery.

Even Open Source Drupal gets beefed up as Acquia acquires two smaller tech sets to boost their migration and security capabilities.

And don’t forget Box.net who is raising money left and right as well as hiring top new talent.

All this paints a picture of a new period in enterprise information management.

My advice to admins: beef up new skill sets and focus on portability.

My advice to owners and budget holders: don’t freak out.
